iPhone 3G – Sent for repair.

Unfortunately I have had to send my iPhone 3g back to O2.

Just recently I have been experiencing many problems with my iPhone. Problems started a few months ago, I waited for a software update, and it did nothing.

The main problems I had were:

- Switching itself off.

Sometimes I press the lock button , and then come back to the phone and it has switched itself off! When I have to switch it back on, I have to hold home and lock (like a reset), and then the Apple logo  appears. It takes much longer to switch on than usual.

- Multiple E-Mail sends.

I don’t know if this is Apple’s fault or Yahoo’s, but sometimes (especially if I send a photo) my iPhone cannot send the photo. This is O.K, and expected sometimes, but not when it sends 20+ of the failed email to the recipient.

- Volume

Sometimes when I’m listening to my iPod the sound suddenly stops. Then I turn the volume back up, and it slides straight back down again! This requires yet another long reset.

O2 say my iPhone is due to come back within ten days, and I sent it on Monday.

This wouldn’t be so bad if the Nokia N95 that I’m using would actually be able to connect to Twitter mobile!

I have a similar problem with my iPhone 3G. It’s sometimes as though I’ve got my finger on the ‘volume down’ button. It scrolls all the way down or up by itself and then the ringer volume icon stays on the screen forever till I reset.

I’d be interested to hear whether your issues turn out to be hardware related…

      Sorry for the late reply…

I took my iPhone back to O2, and they sent it to the repair company. When it was returned the guy in the shop had told me that they had replaced everything inside the phone (motherboard etc). When I opened the box to look at my iPhone it was clearly a new one, all the scratches were no longer there. They hadn’t just replaced the insides, they had replaced everything! Hope you get yours fixed!

    Hey Will,

thanks for getting back to me. I’m glad you got a new phone and hopefully you won’t be experiencing those issues again! I’m pretty sure the problem I have is software based and have contributed to a discussion about it on the apple support site: this link should work…

but in the meantime my phone doesn’t exhibit the other problems yours seemed to have… roll on 3.0 firmware!!

The processor is labeled as slightly more recent model amount however it and the GPU are likely the similar pace as the 3GS. The old Touch using the same CPU and GPU as the 3G was quicker. Besides getting the clock pace turned up greater the Contact has less software to run since it’s not a telephone. It should do better than any iPhone to day in overall performance.
